    Anaerobic Stage
    Anaerobic bacteria decompose macromolecular organic substances (such as proteins and polysaccharides) into small-molecule organics (organic acids, alcohols, etc.), reducing the load for subsequent treatment. Polyphosphate-accumulating organisms (PAOs) release phosphorus, laying the foundation for phosphorus removal.

    Oxic Stage
    Aerobic microorganisms oxidize and decompose organic substances into carbon dioxide and water. Nitrifying bacteria convert ammonia nitrogen (NH₃-N) into nitrates (NO₃⁻) through nitrification, while PAOs absorb phosphorus in excess, realizing effective nitrogen and phosphorus removal.
