Working Principle
Under neutral conditions, the sample is digested with potassium persulfate to oxidize all phosphorus contained in the sample into orthophosphate. In an acidic medium, orthophosphate reacts with ammonium molybdate. In the presence of antimony salt, phosphomolybdate heteropoly acid is formed, which is immediately reduced by ascorbic acid to form a blue complex. Then, the total phosphorus content in the water sample is measured by photoelectric colorimetry.
